The aim of the Under and Tuglas Literary Institute of the Estonian Academy of Sciences research project “Friedebert Tuglas’s works within the context of contemporary literary studies” is to prepare and publish a volume of selected letters by Friedebert Tuglas.
Principal investigator
Elle-Mari Talivee, Senior Researcher at the Under and Tuglas Literary Institute of the Estonian Academy of Sciences
Project Description
A volume of selected letters by Friedebert Tuglas, edited and annotated, is planned for publication by the end of 2026, which is the writer’s jubilee year. Tuglas himself selected the letters with his collected works in mind, and the manuscripts of these works form part of the research collections of the Under and Tuglase Literary Institute. The volume will be provided with illustrations, comments and an afterword aimed at the modern reader, offering thorough context for the letters. The first letter was written in Tartu in 1904 and the last in Tallinn in 1971. The volume will offer insight into the author’s life here and abroad, which was important for Estonian literature and culture.
